Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Thursday, April 27
Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Last week, the NCAA released its first set of 2023 regional rankings for Division II women's lacrosse, listing teams in alphabetical order that are under consideration for a national tournament bid.
Wednesday’s second set of rankings, reflecting game results through April 23, list the top six from each region in ranked order for the first time. West Chester (Atlantic Region), Pace (East), Tampa (South) and Regis (Midwest) are this week’s four number one ranked teams.
The NCAA regional rankings determine participants for the NCAA Tournament. The top four teams from each geographic region will make up the 16-team tournament field, which will be announced at 8:30 pm Eastern time on Sunday, May 7. There are no automatic qualifications given for league champions. The NCAA will release a third and final regional ranking on May 3, prior to selection Sunday.
2. The ACC women’s tournament is in full swing.
The quarterfinal round was played Wednesday, with the three top seeds and fifth-seeded Notre Dame advancing.
Notre Dame will play top-seeded Boston College in the semifinals on Friday. Second-seeded Syracuse gets a matchup with third-seeded North Carolina.
3. USA Lacrosse announced the staff for the 2024 women’s box national team.
The inaugural women’s box team will compete in the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships at a date and location to be announced.
4. The final MCLA coaches polls of the regular season are in.
In Division I, there’s surprisingly a tie at the top. Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech share the No. 1 spot, kicking Florida off its perch.
In Division II, make that eight straight weeks at No. 1 for Rhode Island.
