The first six months of Clemson women’s lacrosse’s existence were met with significant headlines.
The addition of the sport in June 2021 on its own was massive. Next came the hiring of Allison Kwolek, an established leader who was coming off years of turning Richmond into a consistent contender. Then, in January 2022, the Clemson University Board of Trustees Finance and Facilities Committee reviewed a $27.5 million expansion plan for new and upgraded lakefront facilities for three sports. Lacrosse, of course, was one of them.
Now, one year after debuting, Clemson is ready to show off their shiny new toy. On Friday, January 12, Clemson will unveil their brand new women’s lacrosse-only facility via a ribbon-cutting ceremony. While there are several lacrosse-only facilities across the country — Ohio State, for example, just opened its Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium last year — Clemson’s will be the only solely used by a women’s team.
And it’s a sight to behold.
The new facility features a 1,000-seat stadium and a 9,000-square-foot operations building that includes everything a high-level athlete would need — a new locker room, film room, players lounge, nutrition kitchen and coaches offices.
Keep in mind, however, that is not the first women’s lacrosse-only facility. Florida was the sole occupant of Dizney Stadium until the Gators made it the permanent home for their soccer team in 2018.
Clemson will open its season at home on Saturday, February 10 against Davidson at 2:00 p.m.
