Boyle Leads Loyola in Charles Street Rivalry

Junior Chase Boyle set career-highs with six goals and 10 draw controls to lead No. 10 Loyola to a 17-14 victory over No.12 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday afternoon at Homewood Field.

The 5-foot-10 midfielder has scored at least four points in each of Loyola’s first three victories, and scored at least one goal in every quarter on Wednesday.

The game was tied six times and Hopkins took its final lead late in the third quarter when Marielle McAteer gave the Blue Jays a 10-9 lead. However, Loyola’s Sydni Black scored with 1:03 left the quarter to tie the game for the final time entering the fourth quarter.

Loyola scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter, two of them by Georgia Latch, and Hopkins (3-1) never got closer than two the rest of the way.

Hopkins was hit with six yellow cards in the game and the Greyhounds cashed in with seven player-up goals in the contest.

Loyola had just five players score goals in the game, but they had several big outings in addition to Boyle’s six-goal performance. Latch had four goals while Black and Catie Corolla each had hat tricks. Anna Ruby had four assists.

Ava Angello and Ashley Mackin each scored three times for Johns Hopkins.

Temple Wins Battle of Unbeatens

Temple blanked Delaware for the first 23 minutes of the game and beat its regional rival 13-8 to improve to 4-0 for the season.

Mackenzie Roth and Amelia Wright each had hat tricks for Temple and the Owls won the draw battle 15 to 7 with Maddie Barber gathering a team-high six draws. Temple goalie Taylor Grollman made nine saves and Delaware did not score back-to-back goals until late in the fourth quarter.

Keira Grant scored four goals for Delaware, which fell to 3-1 in 2024.

Maryland Improves to 3-0

No. 5 Maryland rolled past Drexel 14-7 despite xx saves from Dragons’ goalie Jenika Cuocco. The Terps (3-0) outshot Drexel 41-21 in the game.

Eloise Clevenger paced the Terps with three goal and three assists and Maryland goalie Emily Sterling made nine saves while allowing just five goals.

Dartmouth Pulls Away from Siena

Dartmouth dominated the fourth quarter to pull away from battle-tested Siena in a 15-8 victory. Katie Elders led the Big Green with five goals and just six shots and scored three times in the fourth quarter as Dartmouth stretched out a 9-6 lead entering the frame.

Siena, which was tied with Johns Hopkins at halftime and upset Army West Point to open the season, got three goals and three assists from Grace Dobrzynski.

Notable

UMass-Lowell continues to make its mark. It’s 4-0 start is the best in school history after a 13-9 win over Stonehill. Chloe Bowers, a freshman from Whitefish Bay, Wisc., and Jade Catlin each had three goals for the River Hawks who are coached by former Syracuse and Harvard head coach Lisa Miller.

Lola Leone and Emily Messinese each scored three goals as No. 17 Navy beat Mount St. Mary’s 18-9 to improve to 3-0 for the season.

Vanderbilt overcame a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to escape Butler with a 17-16 win. Brooke Baker scored five goals for the second straight game, with three of her goals coming in the final eight minutes as the Commodores rallied.

Olivia Tanneberger’s goal with 1:36 remaining broke a tie, giving Old Dominion an 8-7 victory over state rival VCU.

First-year Katie Clare scored four goals as Yale beat Quinnipiac 20-8 to improve to 2-0 for the season. The Bulldogs play at unbeaten Temple on Saturday.

Ashley Bonitch scored three straight goals, allowing Manhattan to tie the game with LIU 6-6 in the fourth quarter and then the Jaspers won it 8-7 in the third overtime on Julianna Iovine’s second goal of the game.

Down five goals in the second half, Binghamton went on a seven-goal run and then held on to beat Colgate 16-15. Abigail Carroll had four goals for Binghamton.

Alyssa Angelo’s nine-point day (6g, 3a) helped Kennesaw State outscore Gardner-Webb 28-17.

Rutgers shut out Monmouth in the first half and beat the Hawks 11-7. Cassidy Spilis had two goals and eight draw controls for the Scarlet Knights (3-0). Monmouth goalie Katie Sullivan made 17 saves.
