Pat Spencer Signs Two-Way Contract with Golden State Warriors

Pat Spencer, the 2019 Tewaaraton Award winner who last training camp fought for the one of the Golden State Warriors’ final roster spots has earned a two-way contract with the Warriors.

Anthony Slater of The Athletic first reported the news.

The Loyola alum who spent a graduate season playing basketball at Northwestern in 2019-20 and was drafted into the Premier Lacrosse League but instead continued to follow his basketball dreams.

Spencer, 27, is a 6-3 guard. He played in 18 games with two starts this season for the Santa Cruz Warriors (Golden State's G-League affiliate) and averaged 15.1 points in 27.1 minutes per game. He shot 49.5 percent from the field and 43.1 percent from three. Spencer added 5.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in the G-League.

A two-way contract allows athletes to split their playing time between a primary team and its affiliate or minor league teams, so Spencer is not guaranteed to spend the rest of the season in the NBA — though this represents the biggest step forward in his professional basketball career to date.
