Maryland Goalie Logan McNaney to Miss Rest of 2023 with ACL Injury

The path to defending a national crown just became exponentially harder for Maryland.

Logan McNaney, the 2022 NCAA tournament most outstanding player and a USA Lacrosse Magazine second-team preseason All-American, has torn his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. Edward Lee of the Baltimore Sun first reported the injury Tuesday night.

Goalie Logan McNaney of reigning NCAA champion Maryland men's lacrosse will miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL in Saturday's 12-7 loss at Loyola Maryland, according to a source. McNaney had an 8.31 goals-against average and a .531 save percentage in two starts.

The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s shocking 12-7 loss to then-unranked Loyola. The Greyhounds buried seven of their 10 second-half shots.

Binghamton grad transfer Teddy Dolan came on in relief of McNaney for the final 2:27 of the game. He also saw 9:16 in the season opener against Richmond, allowing one goal while making three saves. A former three-year starter for the Bearcats, Dolan would appear to be the next man up for Maryland.

Sophomore Westin Schmidt and freshman Brian Ruppel are the other goalies on the roster.

McNaney was pivotal to Maryland’s undefeated run in 2022, finishing the season with 200 saves and a 59.7 save percentage. He made double-digit saves in 11 contests and allowed fewer than 10 goals in 13 of his 18 games, including each of the final seven.

McNaney has been the Terps’ unquestioned starter in the cage since the first two starts of his career in 2020. He has a career record of 35-2.
