Izzy Scane and Brennan O’Neill, the 2023 Tewaaraton Award winners, have been nominated for ESPY awards.

Nominated for Best College Athlete, Women’s Sports, Scane is one of four nominees alongside Jordy Bahl (Oklahoma softball), Caitlin Clark (Iowa women’s basketball) and Trinity Thomas (Florida gymnastics). O’Neill is nominated for Best College Athlete, Men’s Sports, along with Zach Edey (Purdue men’s basketball), Duncan McGuire (Creighton men’s soccer) and Caleb Williams (USC football).

Scane led Northwestern to its first NCAA championship since 2012, scoring 99 goals with 35 assists. She was a Tewaaraton Award finalist for the second time in her career (2021) and recovered just fine after missing the entire 2022 season with a torn ACL. Scane also took home the Honda Award, recognizing the top women’s lacrosse player in the nation.

O’Neill is currently representing the U.S. men’s national team in San Diego for the World Lacrosse Men’s Championship. This comes after a stellar season at Duke in which he helped his team reach the NCAA championship game. O’Neill, a bruising attackman, had 55 goals and 42 assists for a career-best 97 points in 2023.

The 2023 ESPY Awards are Wednesday, July 12, at 8 p.m. Eastern live from Los Angeles on ABC. Voting takes place here.
