Colgate’s Griffin Brown, the sophomore midfielder who scored a career-high six goals in Colgate’s 14-11 win over Cornell on Saturday, has been named the Warrior/US Lacrosse Player of the Week.

Brown added an assist and five ground balls in the effort, leading the Raiders to their first win over the Big Red since 1997 and their first home win in the series since 1964.

From 0:19 of the third quarter until the 9:36 mark of the fourth, Brown scored four consecutive times to turn a 10-9 deficit into a 13-10 lead. The first goal was unassisted and then Nicky Petkevich fed Brown on the next three.

“I challenged Griffin Brown after the Binghamton game, and he showed me what kind of a player he is with the performance today,” Colgate coach Mike Murphy said after the game. “I’m proud of him and proud of the offensive guys from top to bottom.”

Said Brown: “Nicky found me on a couple of easy step-downs. He and I played really well together but we all had a bunch of great looks.”

The Raiders are 3-0 and averaging nearly 18 goals per game.
