ATLANTA, Ga — The ASUN Conference is pleased to announce the addition of Coastal Carolina and Delaware State to its membership in the sport of women’s lacrosse with the upcoming 2022 season, announced Wednesday by the league office.

“This past season, the ASUN women’s lacrosse season included only four programs,” ASUN commissioner Ted Gumbart said. “We are very excited to announce that two former affiliate members of the ASUN will be rejoining us. Coastal Carolina University and Delaware State University reunite with Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Liberty and Stetson to boost the ASUN back to six members in women’s lacrosse. We are proud to welcome these two programs back to the ASUN.”

The ASUN welcomes back both Coastal Carolina and Delaware State, as they were both members of the ASUN Conference in previous years. CCU was a member from 2017-20, while Delaware State was a one-year member in 2017. The Hornets have one ASUN win all-time, which was a 17-14 victory over former member Howard. Coastal Carolina owns a 17-4 overall ASUN record. The Chants were the conference runners-up during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, as they fell to Jacksonville both times.

During the 2021 season, the Chants won 10 of the 17 total games they played in. The squad won five straight games to kick off the year, as they topped Radford, Winthrop, Kennesaw State, Wofford and Davidson. The team is guided by two-time ASUN Coach of the Year Kristen Selvage, who has been at the helm since 2015. Selvage has produced 17 ASUN All-Conference members and led the team to a 12-win season in 2019, which is the second-most wins in a single season in program history.

Delaware State’s lone win of the 2021 season was a 22-13 score over Wilmington University (Del.). Two Hornets found themselves on the All-Conference list this past season, as seniors Tamrin Swann and Dachelle Johnson were each named to the second team. Head coach Pamella Jenkins completed her second season at the helm. Her first win with the squad was an 18-9 victory over Howard on March 1, 2020.

The 2022 season marks the 10th season of women’s lacrosse for the ASUN Conference, as it added the sport during 2013. Next season, six programs will compete for the ASUN Championship title, as CCU and DSU join Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Liberty and Stetson.
