There’s a new face in this Nike / US Lacrosse D-III Men’s Top 20.

Say hello to St. Lawrence, as the Saints knocked off fellow New York school St. John Fisher over the weekend. Their 14-10 victory paved entry into the No. 13 spot, causing some reshuffling across the field.

Another headline-grabbing result was Christopher Newport’s 10-9 overtime win over Lynchburg, causing head coach Mikey Thompson’s team to vault into the No. 3 spot. Those programs are scheduled to meet again Friday, so we’ll see if that was a one-off upset or an indicator of a larger trend.

Elsewhere around the country, it’s a waiting game as NESCAC and Centennial Conference teams return to competition. Their placeholder spots are more of a projection, but perhaps actual results will prompt some movement.

HOT

Christopher Newport (+9)

The Captains scored a season-low 10 goals in an upset win over Lynchburg last weekend, but that mattered little considering the end result. Junior midfielder Brady Altobello had four goals and two assists to pace the offense, while sophomore attackman Alex Brendes launched a bullet in overtime to seal the win. This could be CNU’s biggest win in program history.

York (+1)

The Spartans’ weekend tilt against Hood was postponed, but they blew past Widener by a 20-6 scoreline earlier in the week. Attackmen Will Harnick and Brendan O'Sullivan each have 10 goals on the year, while faceoff specialist Vinny Facciponti has gone a resounding 46-for-62 from the faceoff X. The MAC Commonwealth program is playing with tempo and purpose.

NOT

Cabrini (-4)

A trip to Salisbury last Friday produced an 11-4 loss for Cabrini, the 2019 national champion. It was held scoreless for the entire second half. With top-end players like defenseman Tommy DeLuca and midfielder Ty Kostack, don’t expect too much of a dropoff from the Cavaliers.

Lynchburg (-2)

Lynchburg rallied back against Christopher Newport to force overtime but still dropped a 10-9 decision against its ranked opponent. The good news? The Hornets have a chance for payback on Friday when hosting the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference program, so head coach Steve Koudelka’s team could bounce back.

OUT

RPI (was No. 18)

The Engineers haven’t announced a schedule for the spring. Back on March 1, the school said it was “developing a plan to allow our athletic teams to participate in training and conditioning, and a possible delayed entry into Liberty League competition.” So far, all is quiet from the Liberty League side.

IN

St. Lawrence (No. 13)

This Liberty League program made a statement last weekend, knocking off a ranked St. John Fisher team 14-10. Junior attackman Mark Mahoney had five goals and two assists, while junior goalkeeper William Helm logged his first collegiate win with 10 saves.
