St. Paul’s (Md.) achieved historic success this spring. Christina Gagnon was at the heart of it.

Gagnon tallied 60 points on 36 goals and 24 assists to lead her team to a No. 1 national ranking and a 15-1 season that included the program’s first Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference championship.

“She’s a player we needed on the field,” said Mary Gagnon, Christina’s mom and coach at both St. Paul’s and her M&D club team.

For her strong season, Gagnon has been named the USA Lacrosse National Player of the Year.

Gagnon, the class of the Mid-Atlantic Region, is joined by four other athletes across the country earning recognition.

Maddigan Miller of Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.) is the Northeast Player of the Year. She’s bound for Stanford after producing 36 goals, 16 assists, 72 draw controls, 26 caused turnovers and 35 ground balls for the Long Island Class C champion Phantoms.

Maddie Dora of Milton (Ga.) is the South Player of the Year after accounting for 112 goals, 42 assists, 48 draw controls and 22 caused turnovers in Milton’s 21-0 campaign.

The Midwest Player of the Year is Ellie Lazzaretto of Loyola Academy (Ill.). A consistent playmaker, she finished this spring with 112 goals, 36 assists and 81 draw controls to lead the Ramblers to their 14th state title.

Ella Brislin, a Scripps Ranch (Calif.) star, is the West Player of the Year. She fired in 75 goals while adding 18 assists, 48 ground balls, 82 draw controls and 33 caused turnovers.
