Two ACC games with postseason implications went down Sunday, and a major Division I record was broken during the evening.

GRAY PASSES THOMPSON, DUKE STILL WINS
Chris Gray became the Division I men’s career points leader, passing Albany’s Lyle Thompson with 401, but Duke still dominated North Carolina in a 19-11 win.
Needing five points to tie and six to pass Thompson, Gray made history on a question mark dodge with 7:23 left in the fourth quarter. Gray played in 71 career games, just one more than Thompson.

That was far too little, too late for UNC, though, as Duke still led 17-9.
North Carolina (8-6, 1-5 ACC) actually led 7-5 on a goal from Gray with 3:45 left in the first half. Dyson Williams scored for Duke just before the break, a goal which proved to be a harbinger of things to come.
Duke (11-5, 3-2 ACC) pitched a shutout in the third quarter and scored eight goals in the period. Adding in Williams’ goal before the half, that 9-0 run put the Blue Devils up 14-7.
With the NCAA bubble picture looking iffy for Duke because of the dominance of the Ivy League this spring, next weekend’s game against Notre Dame is a must-win. The winner could very well go dancing.
NOTRE DAME CRUSHES CUSE
Syracuse took more shots, won more faceoffs and had more extra-man opportunities, but four goals and six assists from Pat Kavanagh were too much to overcome in an 18-11 Notre Dame win.

Leading 3-2 after Owen Seebold scored for Syracuse (4-10, 1-5 ACC), Notre Dame (7-4, 4-1 ACC) scored the next five goals to open up an 8-2 lead. The Irish essentially maintained that advantage from there.
