According to the Onondaga County inmate database, Syracuse attackman Chase Scanlan was arrested Friday and has been jailed and charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a crime that can include intentionally damaging another person’s property.

Syracuse.com obtained a photo last week that showed a damaged wall that was reportedly in an apartment on Syracuse’s South Campus that was part of the investigation.

Scanlan is due to be arraigned Friday afternoon in Syracuse City Court.

Scanlan is also accused of breaking a woman’s phone, as well as a physical altercation with her, District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said.

On April 20, Scanlan was suspended indefinitely by the team. He was reinstated on April 26 by head coach John Desko, though teammates soon spoke out. They reportedly planned a walk-out of practice if he returned, leading to Scanlan practicing individually on the side. He did not play against Notre Dame after missing a contest against Virginia.

On April 28, Syracuse.com reported that Scanlan was “involved in what police labeled a domestic incident a day before he was suspended by the team, according to law enforcement sources and people familiar with the case,” adding more context to the planned walk-out by teammates.

Desko addressed media later that day but offered no clarity on the situation. He and other school officials have cited federal privacy laws as the reason not providing additional context or information.

Scanlan has since been suspended from all athletic participation.

The criminal mischief charge is related to the destruction of property within the South Campus apartment.
