MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan lacrosse head coach Sara Tisdale announced she will not seek a renewal of her contract after seven seasons.

“Being the leader of this program since its inception has been an incredible honor,” Tisdale said. “Stepping away from CMU lacrosse is bittersweet, but the decision is necessary for me and my family. I am confident the program will continue to flourish and succeed for years to come.

“I take great pride in the positive reputation of this program. Our student-athletes are highly respected leaders in the community, the classroom, the athletic department, and the Mid-American Conference. I also want to thank CMU & the Mt. Pleasant community for welcoming me home eight years ago.”

Tisdale led CMU to its first NCAA Tournament appearance this season after winning the inaugural Mid-American Conference Tournament. CMU also captured a share of the MAC regular season title and were regular season champions in the SoCon in 2018. Tisdale started the program in 2016 and had an overall record of 54-55.

“I want to thank Sara for all her hard work and effort in building a championship program,” said Amy Folan, the Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics. “The foundation Coach Tisdale built is extremely strong and has positioned this program for future success. I also appreciate her work to help advance diversity, equality and inclusion efforts in our department as she has helped us toward our goal of being leaders in this area.”

CMU will immediately begin a nationwide search for a new head coach. Assistant coach Avery Blackmon will serve as the interim head coach.
