Cascade Lacrosse will be featured on HBO’s “Real Sports” with Bryant Gumbel (Tuesday, 10 p.m. EDT) for its work manufacturing masks and face shields to assist in the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Real Sports” correspondent Jon Frankel interviews employees of Cascade about how they’ve made the switch from making lacrosse helmets to producing protective gear for healthcare workers. Cascade helped Dr. Liza Hartofilis, a former Princeton lacrosse player interviewed by Frankel in the episode, protect herself while fighting COVID-19 on the front lines. She’s the chief resident in the emergency department at New York-Presbyterian.

To protect her family, Hartofilis sent her husband, former Princeton All-American Sean Hartofilis, and their children out of New York so they wouldn’t be exposed to the coronavirus.

“I haven't seen my kids or my husband in almost three weeks,” she told Frankel as tears filled her eyes. “The really morbid, dark side of my brain really is scared that the last time I saw them three weeks ago could potentially be the last time I ever see them again.”

Cascade Maverik was among manufacturers featured in a March 29 US Lacrosse Magazine article about lacrosse companies and athletes who are mobilizing in the fight against COVID-19.

“There’s a passion to protect. It’s our tagline, but for a good purpose,” said Patrick O’Toole, director of marketing for Cascade Maverik. “It goes beyond the technology that’s in a helmet. It goes to an inner meaning. We kind of tapped into that.”
