Caitlyn Petro drew up UMass’ Atlantic 10 championship.

Petro controlled 16 draws, setting the program’s single-season program record and inching closer to the NCAA Division I single-season mark of 224 set by Hailey Wagner of Marist in 2019, in an 18-7 win over Saint Joseph’s on Sunday.

Petro is four away from tying Wagner’s record. The 5-11 redshirt-senior from Manchester, N.H., will get her shot at history in the NCAA tournament after UMass learns which team it will play in the first weekend of the tournament.

In the first game of the A-10 championship weekend, Petro controlled four draws against Davidson as her teammates stepped up to secure possession. For her 20-draw weekend, Petro is the US Lacrosse Division I Women’s Player of the Week.

A weapon heading into the NCAA tournament, Petro has controlled 20 draws or more in four games this spring. She has at least 12 draw controls in 12 games. At 13.75 draws per game, Petro leads Duke’s Maddie Jenner by 3.69 per game for the national lead.
