The Brunswick (Conn.) train continues to chug right along.

The Brunswick School defeated Haverford (Pa.) 9-8 in a nationally televised game between Top 25 teams last Friday. Syracuse commit Blake Borges ended a goalless drought of nearly 23 minutes with his go-ahead score with 6:06 left in the fourth quarter, and he finished with a hat trick. Duke-bound Luke Waters followed with his second goal of the afternoon 27 seconds later, and Georgetown commit Luke Schlank’s ninth save was a massive one down the stretch to help clinch the victory.

Elsewhere in the Nike / US Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25, Malvern Prep (Pa.) is up to No. 12 and two new teams join the party — St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.) and St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.).

The last time St. Anthony’s played a meaningful lacrosse game, the Friars came from behind to edge rival Chaminade 14-13 to win the 2019 CHSAA Class AAA championship. Jake Bonomi scored the winner, and Brennan O’Neill netted seven goals. Bonomi’s at Michigan and O’Neill is a freshman star at Duke. Led by Andrew McAdorey, the current crop of Friars get their chance to forge their legacy when St. Anthony’s finally opens against St. John the Baptist (N.Y.) on Tuesday. Previous: 1

Longtime Flyers coach Jack Moran is quick to point out Will Lynch is no FOGO. He’s also Chaminade’s best offensive midfielder. Charles Balsamo’s combination of vision, shooting skills, feeding ability and relentless riding makes him one of the best attackmen in the Class of 2022, and fellow Duke commit Vincent Fowler can play anywhere on close defense or LSM. And look out for Conor McCabe, a 6-2, 205-pound left attackman who is a power dodger and a hard step-down shooter. The Dan Stone coaching era at Victor is inching closer with the juniors from a year ago hungry to prove there’s no drop off for one of New York State’s most dominant programs. That includes midfielder Alex Seiler, a Clarkson commit, defender Michael Mitchko, attackman/midfielder Nick Benetti and attackman Liam Erwin. The highly anticipated return of the Woodstick Classic, an annual clash against Garden City (N.Y.) since 1935 that took a COVID-19 pause a year ago, is May 15, but first up the Indians meet Roslyn in their season opener May 4. Defensively, Manhasset will be anchored by Georgetown commit Jake Tolentino, who can play both close defense and long-stick midfield, as well as Swarthmore-bound Henry Kolyer. Previous: 6

7. Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.), 0-0

The UNC-bound Schwartz twins — Johnny and Tyler — already have made a name for themselves, as has defender Jake Wilson, who committed to rival Duke. But they are among a talented group to watch from SWR this year. The Wildcats will also be lead by Harvard-bound junior midfielder Francisco Cortes, sophomore attack Alec Gregorek and junior defender Jake Whitney (Siena). Their first contest of a 14-game regular season is May 5 under the lights against Half Hollow Hills West (N.Y.). Previous: 7

8. Massapequa (N.Y.), 0-0

Previous incarnations of the Chiefs put up huge numbers offensively — and that’s still a possibility for Tim Radomski’s squad with the likes of senior Jack Nichtern (Navy) and junior Anthony Mollica (Hofstra) leading the attack. However, Massapequa, which takes on Calhoun (N.Y.) on May 4 for its first game since lifting the NYS Class A title in 2019, will be built on its defense, anchored by senior defenseman Ryan Durnin. Will this be a vintage Ward Melville team? Another New York State powerhouse? Those answers will start to take shape when the Patriots open the 2021 season at home against Sachem East on May 4. When you’ve waited to play as long as the Trojans have, what’s another few days, right? Each team in Nassau County has a bye in an unbalanced 12-game regular season schedule, and Garden City’s just happens to be on opening day. Steve Finnell’s squad features many standouts on the undefeated football team, including senior midfielder Pierce Archer, junior defenseman Brendan Staub, senior FOGO Jack Cascaddan, sophomore midfielder Stevie Finnell and sophomore defender Cole Webber. 1. Gonzaga (D.C.), 1-0

The Purple Eagles defeated Bishop O’Connell (Va.) 19-1 on Friday. Luke Raymond had four goals and one assist, James Matan registered one goal and three assists, Tommy Hanley added three goals, Ryan Taylor had one goal and two assists and Brendan Lane finished with two goals and six ground balls. Charles Wise, Jack Norton, Justin Ennis, Jack Leland, Ian McGlynn, Griffin Dabbs, Jak Kernan and Jack Slater all had one goal apiece in the balanced attack, and long-stick middie Ryan Splaine had one assist. Previous: 1

2. McDonogh (Md.), 6-0       

McDonogh defeated Calvert Hall 16-10 on Friday. Jack Horrigan led the offense with six goals. Luke Miller added two goals and three assists, Dante Trader had three goals and one assist, McCabe Millon registered two goals and two assists and Jack Dudas chipped in two goals. Anthony Wilson made 13 saves, and the Eagles pulled away from a 5-5 halftime tie thanks to a dominating effort on the ground. Previous: 2

3. Georgetown Prep (D.C.), 2-1

The Hoyas defeated Episcopal (Va.) by a 13-6 count on Thursday. Mac Eldridge won 80 percent of his faceoffs, Zach Whittier and Colin Burns each had three goals and one assist, Will Angrick tallied two goals and one assist, Michael Ridgway added one goal and two assists and Hugh Mullane contributed a goal and assist. GP will host Landon (Md.) on Thursday and play at Landon on Saturday. Previous: 3

4. Bullis (D.C.), 4-1       

Bullis defeated St. Albans (D.C.) twice last week. Tucker Wade led the Bulldogs with four goals in the first meeting, a 16-9 win on Thursday, while Connor Davis added three goals, Lucas Hilsenrath had two goals and two assists and Ben Jose chipped in two goals. Wade also had three goals and three assists in a 18-4 win Saturday. Chase Band had four goals and one assist, Davis recorded a goal and four assists, Kieran Anzelone and Hilsenrath had two goals apiece and Tyler Kuehl forced two turnovers. Previous: 4

5. Delbarton (N.J.), 2-0 

Delbarton opened its season April 20 with a 9-2 win over Montclair (N.J.). Jack Manigan had two goals and one assist, Andrew Ross scored two goals, David Link contributed a goal and two assists and Nick Faccone collected four ground balls in the win. Declan Maseker made 10 saves to anchor a stingy defense. The Green Wave rallied to defeat Chatham (N.J.) 6-3 on Saturday. Ryan Johnson finished with a hat trick, and Manigan had two goals and one assist. Donnie Tedesco chipped in one goal, and Dylan Hakes and Ross had one assist apiece. Maseker made nine saves. 6. Malvern Prep (Pa.), 8-1        

Malvern Prep topped Haverford (Pa.) 12-4 on April 20 in a key Inter-Ac League showdown outside Philadelphia. The defensive unit of Michael Buono, Jake Brownley, Luke Caren and Lucca DiBartolomeo, as well as defensive middies Sam Bevevino, Cooper Frankenheimer and Kellen Mathias, shut down Haverford’s offense. Chris O’Grady made eight first-half saves, and Joe Dougherty made six in the second half. Will Peden had a goal and four assists to help the offense, while Alex Nikolic finished with a hat trick, Colin McGill had two goals and one assist and Jack Irish recorded two goals. The Friars then defeated Lawrenceville 16-3 in their GEICO High School Lacrosse Showcase on Friday. Spanos led with five goals, McGill had three goals and one assist, Peden finished with two goals and four assists, Nick Potemski added two goals and one assist and Dennis Udo had two goals. O’Grady made five saves as Malvern cruised by Germantown Academy (Pa.) 10-5 on Saturday. Tucker Milhous had three goals and Nikolic and McGill had two goals apiece. Previous: 9

8. Archbishop Spalding (Md.), 7-1

Spalding edged Boys’ Latin (Md.) 14-12 on Friday. Michael Weisshaar led with four goals and three assists. Finn Kelly contributed three goals and one assist, and Race Ripley had one goal and four assists. Spalding led 9-7 at halftime. Weisshaar scored a final insurance goal after Boys’ Latin came within 13-12, and Jake Oliver shut the door on any further rally. Alex Ross keyed the defensive effort in the second half. Previous: 8

9. Calvert Hall (Md.), 2-2

The Cardinals lost 16-10 to unbeaten No. 2 McDonogh on Friday despite 13 saves from Tommy Lubin. JoJo Dean had four goals, and Jordan Wray added a goal and two assists. Calvert Hall had beaten John Carroll (Md.) 20-3 on April 20 behind big contributions from Wray (five goals and one assist), Ethan Long (four goals and two assists) and EJ Vasile and Wyatt Hottle, who both had two goals and one assist apiece, and Mic Kelly and Shuey Kelly, who each added one goal and three assists. 1. Dallas Jesuit (Texas), 9-2

The Rangers closed out the regular season by defeating Episcopal Dallas (Texas) 11-4 on April 23. Senior midfielder Sam Teachout led the Rangers with four goals. Dallas Jesuit begins postseason play May 1 against Lake Travis (Texas). Previous: 1

2. Cardinal Gibbons (N.C), 17-0

The Crusaders completed an unbeaten season with a state title on March 26, defeating Hough (N.C.) 14-5. Bryce Wojnovich, a Jacksonville recruit, was named the state championship MVP for his five-goal performance. Junior Caden Zadell led Cardinal Gibbons with 42 goals this season. Previous: 2

3. Highland Park (Texas), 12-2

The Highlanders concluded the regular season with a 16-9 victory over St. Marks (Texas) on April 22. Thomas Mencke, George Wright and Harrison Key contributed hat tricks in the victory. Highland Park takes on Allen (Texas) on April 30 to open the postseason. Previous: 3

4. Blessed Trinity (Ga.), 17-0

The Titans concluded the regular season unbeaten with wins last week over Fellowship Christian (Ga.), Roswell (Ga.) and Pope (Ga.). Senior Finn McCarthy scored 11 times and added five assists last week, which included a five-goal, two-assist performance against Roswell. The postseason begins April 28 with a matchup against Effingham County (Ga.). Previous: 4

5. St. Andrew’s (Fla.), 13-0

The Scots remained unbeaten after defeating Pine Crest (Fla.) in the regional semifinal round of the state playoffs. St. Andrew’s will face Belen Jesuit (Florida) on April 30 for a regional title. Previous: 5

6. Ponte Vedra (Fla.), 15-1

The Sharks’ season concluded in a shocking playoff overtime loss to Creekside (Florida). Maddox Johnson led Ponte Vedra with 49 goals. Jack Reed led the squad in assists with 20. Previous: 6

7. Middle Creek (N.C.), 12-1

The Mustangs’ season came to an end March 17, losing to eventual state champion Cardinal Gibbons 12-7. Eight Mustangs tallied double figures in goals this year, led by junior Tate Jones, who had 36. Charlie Riesett won more than 90 percent of faceoffs. Previous: 7

8. Jupiter (Fla.), 15-1

The Warriors will play for a regional title on April 30 after toppling Stoneman Douglas (Fla.) 22-7 on April 23. Jackson Bashaw led Jupiter with six goals, and Trace Hogan contributed four goals. Max Sanderson had four assists and a hat trick. Jupiter faces St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) in the regional championship game. Previous: 8

9. Lassiter (Ga.), 15-3

The Trojans concluded the regular season on April 23 with a 10-4 win over Buford (Ga.). Lassiter also defeated Pope (Ga.) on April 20 by a 12-5 margin. 1. Culver Academy (Ind.), 10-1

Braedon Saris and the Eagles rolled, as the Princeton commit had 10 goals and 12 assists combined in a 22-0 win over Trinity and a 23-2 victory over Kiski Academy (Pa.). On May 12, the Eagles are set to host IMG Academy (Fla.), “easily the most competitive team Culver has ever hosted,” per coach Jon Birsner. Previous: 1

2. New Trier (Ill.), 3-0

The Trevians trailed by two at the half in their first game before outscoring Glenbrook South (Ill.) 9-1 in the second half for a 13-7 win, sparked by three straight goals from Robbie Neslunds to start the third quarter. After a tough opener, New Trier beat Highland Park and Deerfield by a combined margin of 39-2, led by big weeks from Ollie Montgomery (eight goals, five assists) and Chase Bruno (seven goals). 3. Loyola Academy (Ill.), 0-0

The Ramblers get started this week with games against St. Ignatius (Ill.) on Thursday and St. Rita (Ill.) on Saturday. St. Rita is off to a 3-0 start. Previous: 3

4. East Grand Rapids (Mich.), 7-0

The Pioneers have rolled at home, including decisive in-state wins this week against Rockford, Hudsonville and Cranbrook. Now, it’s time for EGR to take its show on the road for four straight games, followed by a tough test when it returns home against Forest Hills Central (Ill.). Previous: 5

5. Brother Rice (Mich.), 7-1

The Warriors had a superb week in beating two of the Mitten State’s top teams in Detroit Catholic Central and Forest Hills Central. Luke Dudley had a big game against DCC with a hat trick (and an assist) in the first half and change while Hunter Polonkey had his own late hat trick in Sunday’s victory. Previous: 6

6. Upper Arlington (Ohio), 10-1

After impressing by playing Culver close, the Golden Bears had a fantastic week, beating Olentangy Liberty (Ohio), Cathedral (Ind.) and MICDS (Mo.) all by five-plus goals. Previous: 7

7. Hudson (Ohio), 10-0

The Explorers pulled off arguably the biggest win of the week, leading the entire way against Dublin Jerome for a 13-12 victory. Senior goalie Alex Movshin helped hold the Celtics to their lowest scoring total of the season, while Alec Dickens (four goals, four ground balls, three assists), Jack Jenkins (three goals, two assists) and Carter Vallancourt (two goals, two assists) had big performances for the Explorers. 8. Dublin Jerome (Ohio), 10-1

The Celtics put up 18 goals in just three quarters against Thomas Worthington (Ohio) before the game was called due to thunderstorms. As for Dublin Jerome’s first loss, there’s no shame in losing on the road to Hudson, which is undefeated and has a quality win at St. Xavier. Previous: 4

9. Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.), 7-2

The Royals returned from a trip to the Buckeye State and continued its unbeaten run against in-state competition with a pair of dominant performances against Center Grove and Guerin Catholic. Ryan Kemp has played particularly well lately, including a five-goal performance against the Golden Eagles. Previous: T-10

10. Edina (Minn.), 3-0

The Hornets have one of the most impressive victories in the Land of 10,000 Lakes thus far with Saturday’s 10-9 win over 2019 state champion Prior Lake. The Hornets’ newfound spot in the top 10 will be tested Thursday by St. Michael-Albertville, which came within a goal of Eden Prairie, and on May 4 by the undefeated Eagles themselves. Previous: NR

1. St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.), 2-0

St. Ignatius opened with a 26-4 win over Marin Catholic (Calif.) on April 20 with Nils Barry recording a single-game program record 11 goals and three assists. The Wildcats then rolled to a 19-7 win over former No. 4 Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.) on Thursday and showed their depth. Barry led with five goals and one assist, Jackson Kane had two goals and three assists and Henry Neihaus added two goals and two assists. Sophomore Chase Morgan made 14 saves. Previous: 1

2. Torrey Pines (Calif.), 2-0

Dewey Egan tallied four goals, Tayden Bultman and Griffin Crawford added two each as the Falcons defeated what coach Jono Zissi described as a pesky Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.) team by a 10-6 margin. Torrey Pines plays host to Cathedral Catholic (Calif.) on Saturday for its home opener. 3. Regis Jesuit (Colo.), 0-0

The Raiders had some young talent that got valuable experience in a disappointing 2019 campaign, and now they are the upperclassmen leading the team. Regis Jesuit especially is strong at close defense and attack, but the key will be seeing how a three-senior goalie competition plays out and the development of the middies on offense and defense. Top returning players include senior attackmen Jack Ringhofer and Will McFadden, senior long-stick middie Adam Zdanovicz, senior midfielder Jack Egan and sophomore defender Jack Casey, who would have started as a freshman. 4. St. Margaret’s Episcopal (Calif.), 8-1

The Tartans shut out Newport Harbor (Calif.) 13-0 on April 20, then outlasted Corona del Mar (Calif.) in overtime Friday. Will Stahl extended the game on his fourth goal with just 1:21 left in regulation, and Owen Binder scored the game-winner with 2:22 remaining in overtime to lift St. Margaret’s past CdM 9-8. Matt Groeninger had the assist to Binder’s goal and finished with three goals and two helpers. Previous: 6

5. Corner Canyon (Utah), 13-0

The Chargers’ offense keeps humming along, as no opponent has held them under 13 goals this season. They beat American Fork (Utah) 15-9 and Pleasant Grove (Utah) 21-4 last week. Jon King tallied a season-high eight goals and four assists against Pleasant Grove on Friday, and he had five goals and one assist against American Fork on April 20. Mason Quick registered six points in both games, adding five goals and one assist against Pleasant Grove and six goals against American Fork. Blake Franckowiak and Blaze DeGracie each had a seven-point game last week. Previous: 5

6. Loyola Los Angeles (Calif.), 7-1

The Cubs added three in-state wins last week, as they beat Harvard-Westlake 11-5 in their Mission League opener April 20 and then topped Mira Costa 16-3 on Thursday and Notre Dame Sherman Oaks 23-1 on Saturday. Owen Gaffney and Aiden Lee each had a hat trick against Harvard-Westlake. Previous: 7

7. Mater Dei (Calif.), 9-1

The Monarchs packed three wins into a four-day stretch last week, although one came by forfeit from Orange Lutheran. The highlight of the week might have been sophomore Lucas de la Paz’s performance in which he won 97 percent of his faceoffs (33 of 34) and scooped up a stunning 18 ground balls in a 20-10 win over Sierra Canyon (Calif.) on Thursday. Grant Portillo finished with seven goals and an assist, and sophomore Evan Curry added four goals and three assists. Previous: 8

8. Jesuit Portland (Ore.), 3-0

The Crusaders are off to a nice start since opening with a 16-4 win over Central Catholic (Ore.), as they’ve added wins over West Linn (Ore.) and Sunset (Ore.) since. The OHSLA is allowing teams to play eight games through May 7 with a postseason tentatively scheduled to follow the regular season. Previous: NR

9. Cathedral Catholic (Calif.), 5-0

The Dons knocked out former No. 9 La Costa Canyon (Calif.) and took the Mavericks’ place after beating them 12-8 on Thursday. Cathedral followed that big game with a 16-3 win over St. Augustine SD on Saturday. A big game against Torrey Pines looms Saturday. Previous: NR

10. Cherry Creek (Colo.), 0-0

The Bruins won their seventh state title in 2019 and were ready to pick up where they left off last year, but the season shut down before they ever took the field. Cherry Creek would have returned seven starters and 25 of 36 players from that championship squad, but only four of those return after 21 seniors graduated in 2020. Senior attackman/midfielder Dakota Johnson and junior faceoff specialist Sawyer Brewer lead a group that will look to improve as the season progresses. Cherry Creek begins its season in early May.
