The Brine/US Lacrosse Players of the Week are named each Tuesday to recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’  and girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

Northeast

Sami Rothstein, Wheatley (N.Y.)

Rothstein, a junior, totaled 21 goals and one assist as Wheatley opened the season with two wins. In total, Wheatley scored 29 goals in the two games, so Rothstein has scored 72 percent of her team's goals.

Mid-Atlantic

Alex Marino, Bryn Mawr (Md.)

Marino scored three goals and added three assists to help Bryn Mawr to an 11-6 win over Roland Park (Md.) last week.

South

Elizabeth Farnsworth, Hutchison (Tenn.)

The senior attacker powered Hutchison in three wins, racking up 23 goals, 14 assists, 24 draw controls, 16 ground balls and nine forced turnovers. In two big wins in the Dallas area, Farnsworth amassed 16 goals, five assists, 18 draw controls, 13 ground balls and six forced turnovers despite being double-teamed by both Episcopal School of Dallas and Hockaday.

Midwest

Lauren Farber, Upper Arlington (Ohio)

According to Golden Bears coach Wendy Pinta, Farber’s prowess on the draw was the difference in Upper Arlington’s big win over No. 4-ranked New Trier (Ill.). Farber also was solid offensively last week, contributing a goal against New Trier and then notching a hat trick against Lyons Township (Ill.) in a winning effort.

West

Lauren Russell, Colorado Academy (Colo.)

The senior had an impressive week to help the Mustangs to a pair of wins in California. She tallied four goals in an 11-7 win over St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.) and also had eight goals in a 19-12 win over Menlo (Calif.). Russell is committed to William & Mary.
