The WPLL announced its 2018 All-Star Team on Monday. Selected by the league’s coaches, the 2018 WPLL All-Star Team represents the best attackers, midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers from the WPLL's inaugural season.
“We were very impressed by the level of talent exhibited throughout the first season of the WPLL,” said commissioner Jen Adams. “We are thrilled to announce our 2018 All-Star team, which reflects the players that league coaches feel made the biggest impact during the 2018 season.”
The 2018 All-Star Team is highlighted by 2018 WPLL MVP Marie McCool, who was a unanimous 2018 All-Star Team selection along with attackers Brooke Griffin and Kylie Ohlmiller, defenders Alice Mercer and Meg Douty and goalie Kelsea Donnelly.
The Baltimore Brave, who recorded a perfect WPLL regular season before falling to the New England Command in the championship game, led the way with six 2018 WPLL All-Stars: attackers Griffin and Alyssa Leonard; midfielders McCool, Amanda Johansen and Laura Zimmerman; and goalie Donnelly.
2018 WPLL champion New England Command and semifinalist New York Fight followed the Brave with four All-Stars each. The Command were represented by attacker Kara Mupo, midfielder Kasey Behr, and defenders Douty and Katie Hertsch. Fight attacker Ohlmiller, midfielder Taylor Cummings, and defenders Mercer and Caroline Fitzgerald were honored.
The Upstate Pride, who fell to the New England Command in a tough semifinal matchup, had two players named All-Stars, midfielder Ally Carey and attacker Danielle Spencer. Defender Maddy Lesher is the only Philadelphia Fire player to receive All-Star honors.
