With 14 points in two wins this past week, junior attacker Sam Apuzzo led undefeated Boston College to its longest win streak in program history, earning her Brine/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.

On Tuesday, the Eagles secured a comeback 13-9 victory over Yale thanks to Apuzzo’s five points, all of which came in the second half.

Trailing by one at halftime, she brought Boston College within one eight minutes in before sparking her own three-goal run five minutes later to tie it 7-7 and take the Eagles up by two. Her lone assist of the day to Dempsey Arsenault came with 6:53 remaining to again take BC up by two for a lead that never disappeared.

Apuzzo also tallied three draw controls, four ground balls and four caused turnovers in the Eagles’ 11th victory, which marked their largest win streak.

Four days later, behind a nine-point performance from Apuzzo, that streak extended to 12 victories to start 2018 with a dominant 17-11 win over ACC rival North Carolina. She also added nine draw controls, which gives her 175 for her career and places her third in program history for career draw controls.

Her first three points against the Tar Heels, with the first two being back-to-back goals, brought the Eagles within one, knotted it at five with under two minutes to play in the first half and handed them a one-goal leading heading into halftime.

Then Boston College exploded for an 11-6 second half with Apuzzo having a hand in six of those 11 goals.

She assisted Emma Schurr four minutes in for the go-ahead goal, then scored four minutes later to take the Eagles up two. In their final six-goal run in the last 12 minutes to pull away for the victory, Apuzzo assisted on three of the scores.
