The past week was one of the busiest of the year in the WCLA, and the wealth of action yielded a change at the top of the WCLA’s Division I ranking, with Boston College Club leapfrogging Georgia into the No. 1 position. Meanwhile, Utah Valley maintained its hold on No. 1 in Division II.

Colorado’s annual Mile High Invitational, one of the marquee events of the season, brought many of the top teams to Boulder and featured several notable matchups. Boston College Club was among the teams that made the trip to MHI and finished 4-0 at the event, including wins over ranked opponents Colorado State, BYU and host Colorado. That showing was enough to lift the Eagles, ranked second last week, over Georgia and into the No. 1 spot.

It’s not that Georgia stumbled, as the Bulldogs also flexed their muscles with three wins at the Boulder event, including victories over Michigan Club and Texas. Both BC (11-0) and Georgia (15-0) remain undefeated on the year.

No. 3 Virginia Club, No. 4 Virginia Tech and No. 5 Florida Club round out the top five in Division I.

In Division II, 14 of the 20 teams in the poll saw action during the past week, and that activity is reflected in the significant movement within the ranking.

While the top three from last week — No. 1 Utah Valley, No. 2 UC San Diego and No. 3 Loyola Club — remained unchanged, there was lots of shuffling behind them.

New Hampshire Club, coming off a 5-0 week, had one of the biggest jumps of the week, climbing five spots to No. 4 in the poll. No. 5 Grand Valley State also enjoyed a solid week, winning four games, and climbed three spots.  

No. 9 Providence moved into the top 10 for the first time this season after moving up four spaces, while the biggest jump belonged to No. 12 Portland State, which climbed six spots.

No. 20 Texas State was the only newcomer in this week’s Division II poll.
