Boston College, which has reached the NCAA championship game the last two years, is the No. 1-ranked team in the IWLCA Division I Coaches Preseason Poll.
The Eagles received 22 of 25 first-place votes in the poll, which was released Monday in conjunction with Division II and Division III rankings. BC brings back reigning Tewaaraton Award winner Sam Apuzzo, reigning IWLCA Defender of the Year Elizabeth Miller, IWLCA first-team All-American midfielder Dempsey Arsenault and 2017 NCAA championship MVP Kenzie Kent. BC also received top billing in the Nike/US Lacrosse Preseason Top 20.
Maryland and North Carolina share the No. 2 spot, with the Tar Heels garnering a first-place vote. Defending NCAA champion James Madison and Stony Brook round out the top five, with Florida and Northwestern not far behind.
The first in-season update to the IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll will be Feb. 18, with Division II and Division III updates starting Feb. 25.
