The teams are set.
Drafting squads for the fifth time this summer, the top four players on the leaderboard constructed the teams Monday night they hope can lead them to the No. 1 spot and the inaugural Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse individual championship.
Taylor Cummings, Caylee Waters, Kady Glynn and Kylie Ohlmiller are the Week 5 captains, but so many more players are still in contention. With the scoring system developed by Athletes Unlimited, a stellar weekend could be enough to propel just about anyone to the top.
Ohlmiller, the captain of Team Purple, kickstarted the Week 5 draft by selecting Ally Kennedy, uniting two former Stony Brook stars together. Next was Glynn, who headlined her attacking unit with Kayla Treanor. Waters, seeking to do the same, selected Kenzie Kent.
Cummings, the captain of Team Gold who holds an 85-point lead in the standings, selected Marie McCool to pair with her in the midfield. McCool became the only player in AU Lacrosse history to be selected in the first round of every draft.
Now that the teams are set, all that's left is the weekend. Six more games remain in the inaugural season, and it's anyone's game.
