Anish Shroff considers himself a lacrosse “outsider” having not grown up with the sport. He was introduced to the medicine game while at Syracuse covering Mikey Powell. But he’s become one of the integral voices in the sport since taking over play-by-play duties for ESPN’s coverage.

Shroff, whose parents were born in Mumbai, India, grew up in New Jersey before heading to Syracuse to study journalism. There, he saw firsthand the game of lacrosse being played at the highest level.

His passion was born at Syracuse and continued into his career as a broadcaster. Eventually, Shroff joined ESPN and got the opportunity to cover lacrosse once again.

Now ESPN’s lead play-by-play announcer, Shroff is a major part of the lacrosse community. He’s been the voice of the NCAA men’s national championship for the past three seasons and was in line to do the same this Memorial Day.

Now that the NCAA lacrosse season has been canceled, Shroff shares in the lacrosse community’s pain.

Shroff joined Paul Carcaterra for Ep. 5 of Overtime to talk about what happens now, what the NCAA will do after granting spring athletes an extra year of eligibility and the positives we can draw from this experience.
