Alex Frank, a former three-time All-American player at Northwestern who has had stops as an assistant coach at Boston College and Colorado, was named the new head women’s lacrosse coach at Dartmouth on Tuesday.

Frank, just the fifth head coach in the Big Green’s 48-year history, replaces Danielle Spencer, who left last month to take over at Stanford. Frank also is an assistant coach for the U.S. women’s national team.

“I am honored and privileged to be the next head women’s lacrosse coach at Dartmouth,” Frank said in a press release issued Tuesday. “I want to thank Athletics Director Harry Sheehy and Senior Associate Athletics Director Dr. Kristene Kelly for giving me the opportunity to begin my head coaching career with the Big Green.

“I am fortunate to have worked alongside and been mentored by some of the best coaches. I want to thank Colorado head coach Ann Elliott Whidden and Boston College head coach, Acacia Walker Weinstein for their continuing support over the last seven years,” Frank continued. “I want to thank Colorado Athletics Director Rick George for his guidance over the last four years and will forever be grateful to have been a part of the Colorado women’s lacrosse family.”

Both BC and Colorado saw boosts in recruiting during Frank’s time at each stop. She spent the last four seasons in Boulder after three years in Chestnut Hill. She was the offensive coordinator at Colorado after working with the midfield and defense at Boston College.

Frank and Spencer overlapped as players at Northwestern, spending two seasons there together. Spencer had Dartmouth on the rise. The Big Green made their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2013 this year and have finished with 11 wins in each of the last two seasons.
