Most of the action last week centered around the top of the Nike/US Lacrosse Division II Women’s Top 20, which featured some shuffling among the heavyweights. Last year’s national runner-up Adelphi exacted a little revenge for its 2016 championship game loss by defeating Florida Southern and supplanting the Mocs in the number one position.  That was just the start of a busy week for defending national champion Florida Southern, which played four games and lost twice. After losing at home to then No. 2 Adelphi, the Mocs traveled to the Midwest for three games and concluded the trip with their second loss, a 14-11 setback to Lindenwood.

HOT

Queens (N.C.) (+3)
The Royals have been an early-season yo-yo. One week after dropping three spots in the poll, the South Atlantic Conference favorites rebounded back into the Top 10 with a 6-3 win over then-No. 8 Rollins. Queens is back to No. 8 in the poll and will put its new ranking to the immediate test with a Monday matchup against St. Leo’s.

Adelphi (+1)
It may not be a big jump, but it’s always a good week when you take over the No. 1 position in the poll. Adelphi moved up with a dominating 12-5 road win over previous No. 1 Florida Southern. Jackie Jahelka and Kate Beier did most of the offensive damage, accounting for four goals apiece for the Panthers.  Adelphi’s first test as the new No. 1does not come for another 10 days in its NE-10 opener against American International.

NOT

Florida Southern (-6)
A tough week for the defending national champions, who lost to both No. 2 Adelphi and No. 3 Lindenwood. The loss to Adelphi snapped a 15-game FSC winning streak, dating back to last March. The Mocs never led in Sunday’s 14-11 loss at Lindenwood, a rematch of last year’s national semifinal.

Rollins (-3)
The Tars fell three spots with their non-conference loss to Queens, although Rollins followed that loss with a 9-3 win at Wingate two days later. Picked second in the five-team Sunshine State Conference’s preseason poll, Rollins faces eight more non-conference games before returning to Sunshine play in April.

NEW

New Haven
The Chargers moved into the poll despite not having played any games yet. Coming off three straight NCAA tournament appearances, New Haven was tabbed third in the NE-10’s preseason coaches’ poll, behind Adelphi and Le Moyne. Coach Jen Fallon’s squad opens its season Thursday with a non-league game at Molloy.

OUT

Mount Olive
One week after slipping into the poll at No. 20 based on a 4-0 start, the Trojans fall back out of the ranking following an 0-2 week. Mount Olive dropped a 10-8 decision to Wingate, and followed with a 9-8 overtime loss to unranked Lenior-Rhyne.
