In addition to serving as a captain for the 2007 U.S. team at the FIL World Championship, Thorpe has represented the country at the Heritage Cup and Bowhunter Cup over the years. He helped the U.S. defeat Canada to win the Heritage Cup in 2002 and beat the Iroquois Nationals to win the Bowhunter Cup in 2010.
Off the field, Thorpe has been active as a coach on multiple levels. Since 2010, he has coached with the Orange women’s team, helping Syracuse to reach the NCAA semifinal round six times, including two championship game appearances. As a head coach, he led the Hamilton Nationals to the MLL championship game in 2011 and the Six Nations Arrows of the Ontario Junior A league to the Minto Cup title in 2007. As an assistant coach, he helped the Rochester Rattlers win an MLL championship (2008) and the Six Nations Arrows win the Minto Cup (2014).
Thorpe serves on the board of the US Lacrosse Upstate Chapter and the US Lacrosse Greater Rochester Chapter Hall of Fame is one of four halls to which he has been inducted.
“We knew we wanted to offer more educational sessions on box lacrosse at LaxCon, and we very much appreciate U.S. indoor team coach Regy Thorpe being a part of that,” said Kim Rogers, director of events at US Lacrosse. “We’re looking forward to his presentation.”
LaxCon represents lacrosse’s largest educational event and trade show, drawing upwards of 7,000 each year. The convention is open to the public, and members of US Lacrosse can save up to $40 or more on registration vs. public pricing.
