Reigning Tewaaraton Award winner Sam Apuzzo topped the list of players named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List for 2019.

Apuzzo won the award last year after compiling a monster season with 129 points (88g, 41a) while leading Boston College to the NCAA championship game. Selected to participate in the two most recent U.S. national team events — IWLCA President’s Cup and Spring Premiere — she is off to a strong start in her senior year. BC is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation with a perfect 5-0 record and Apuzzo has 36 points (26g, 10a) and is coming off of a 10-point (8g, 2a) performance in yesterday’s 20-10 won over Dartmouth.

The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.

Players not named to the initial lists have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch list additions, if applicable, will be announced on March 21 and April 4. On April 25, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions.

Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 9 and invited to the ceremony. The 19th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C., on May 30.
